Wiley’s Day

Trip 2 – Day 44

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Craig and I swabbed out the Hag this morning.  He vacuumed EVERYTHING and I cleaned the bathroom and non-carpeted floors.  The desert produces a LOT of dust, which comes into the Hag, leaving a light coating on everything.  It’s kind-of a mess.  The park sends water trucks through the park, and they spray water on the roads to keep the dust down.  It helps, but things still get dusty.

Then, we took Wiley for a walk.  We went to the fenced dog park, where he can run around off the leash.  This is pretty much a daily event for him.  There are a lot of small surly little dogs here, and their owners are always apologetic about the dog’s non-friendly attitude.  They don’t EVER want to join Wiley in the dog park.  But, today, to the absolute delight of Wiley, another dog came in and THEY GOT TO PLAY!  They sniffed, they ran, they jumped, and had a great time.  Wiley was so happy.  We know that he lived with another dog before he was surrendered, and have felt a little guilty about the fact that we are depriving him of a life with a dog pal.  We will live with the guilt, as I am not quite ready to take on another “project.”  So, for Wiley, this was his BEST. DAY. EVER.

I saw a little project on Pintrest, and thought that I would give it a try.  I bought some old metal zippers at one of the garage sales in the park and fiddled around with them to make these little heart pins.  I think they are pretty cute, especially if you are a sewist.  Other folks might not enjoy them quite as much.  Anyway, that was my afternoon.

Another ominous afternoon sky. A good reason to stay inside and sew.

We met Fred at the American Legion in Bombay Beach for spaghetti dinner.  It was great – the food, the music, the Blues Brother’s type atmosphere.  Really, how could life get any better?

This, folks, is the American Legion Hall in Bombay Beach, California. As Fred said, "It's not fancy."
