I have mentioned before that dear Stella is truly the joy of our lives. Her entrance into life with the Daisies, had some unexpected twists for all concerned, but really it was merely a blip on the radar screen. We have watched her heal, get stronger, and really enjoy the life we have to offer her.
It is amazing how it all came together. Each thing had to happen in just the right sequence with just the right people. It was meant to be. I know that. Anyone who has met her has quickly come to that conclusion. I do believe she also sees this.
We live on a slope and we classify the property as being in three sections. At the lowest point, there is the orchard, which is where Stella does her squirrel hunting, then there’s the yard surrounding the house, and finally, the upper field where we play ball and Frisbee with her. We don’t have a big view anymore as the area has somewhat filled with homes and trees. But from the upper field it is possible to see quite a distance. There is a spot at the highest point of the property, in the shade of the neighbor’s bushes, where Stella likes to lay and survey the land. One day, when I was out walking, we noticed her up there peacefully staring into the distance. The look on her face reminded us of the line from the movie, Field of Dreams: “Is this Heaven?” Maybe it is. It sure feels that way for us.
I’ll say it again. Rescued dogs have a gratitude that is ever evident. Maybe I should add the word “most” to the beginning of the last sentence. I have known a dog that wasn’t grateful, but we’re not talking about that dog. Stella is grateful and I am thankful every day that we found (and rescued) each other.
